Great Stuff

Here is a short list of products that I'd continue to pay to use, even if a sponsor offered to let me use their version for free.  These products have proven their durability, efficiency, value or comfort to me over years of use.

FYI, I am not currently sponsored by any of these companies.

Latest Nominee 01/07:  Maxxis Ultralight Tubes - Torture tested by 250+ pounds of rider and bike for months without a punture.

Previous entries:

Camelbaks: I love my new Chaos and my 4 year-old Lobo still looks good-as-new.  I see that Camelbak is on SponsorHouse now.  How about replying to my application?  Wink wink.

Red Bull: I like caffeine and these guys do caffeine, at least in cold form, better than anybody.

Chamois Butt'r from Paceline:  Just as good as Assos, about 1/3 the price.

Shure Headphones:  Run up inside my jersey and designed to run over the back of my ears.  Great sound quality and isolation from outside noise - essential when solo riding.

Palm Treo:  Its a phone, its an MP3 player with infinitely expandable memory via SD cards.  Its the only thing that's been with me on every single ride for the last 3 years.  Did I mention its pretty durable?

Giro E2:  I've always worn Giro helmets.  They just fit.  The E2 has a removable visor, great ventilation and is easy to clean.  Most will last several years if not left in a hot car, but I usually replace mine at least every other winter.  I got a pod case with my first one and just keep reusing it.  Protects the helmet from direct sunlight.

Wippermann stainless steel 9-speed chain:  When SRAM or Shimano makes a longer-lasting stainless chain, I'll consider switching.  Until then, it's the strongest, most dependable narrow chain out there.

ODI Lock-On Grips:  Disqualified- new sponsor.  Thanks!

Dangerboy Barend Plugs:  Save your guts, plug your bar.  These guys make some cool ones, as long as you don't use a carbon bar.

Gloves?  I'll admit, since becoming sponsored by SixSixOne, I've been converted.  The Oakley, Answer and Fox gloves are retired to the bottom drawer of the dresser.  Maybe some of my friends can use them.  Now if they just made a race short and jersey!  I'd wear it.
